My Parkdale Property Stories

I was hunched over the passenger seat at 2:15 pm, hood up, watching a guy in a fluorescent jacket wipe a sudsy rag across my friend Mark's GTI for what felt like the tenth time. Rain was doing that polite Vancouver drizzle, the kind that makes everything smell like wet cedar and exhaust. My phone said the appointment had been at 1:30, but the shop on Commercial Drive was running behind. Mark kept checking his watch and then checking his phone like one of those old folks who

I was halfway through rubbing a microfiber cloth over the passenger fender at 2:15 pm, rain spitting into the driveway like it had a personal vendetta, when my neighbor honked and yelled, "Are you actually doing that yourself?" I said nothing because I was trying not to get water spots while muttering to myself about how glossy the panel already looked under the overcast light. The car still had that new-car smell, and the city around me smelled faintly of diesel from a pai

I was squinting under a strip of fluorescent light, rain still beading on my jacket sleeve, when the tech waved me over like I was about to miss something important. It was 11:12 a.m., the kind of grey Vancouver morning that makes everything look the same shade of tired. I had driven through a little traffic on Main, the car radio cutting in and out, and parked in a lot that smelled faintly of motor oil and wet asphalt. My friend had texted for a favour: can you go check ou

I was hunched over the hood with a strip of LED light in my left hand and a coffee in my right, rain still sputtering off the garage roof. It was 7:13 p.m., the sky the exact dull slate of a Vancouver Tuesday, and my friend Jason was somewhere inside arguing softly with the detailer about whether "decontamination" included iron fallout. I had promised to help him check the prep work before they applied the ceramic coating. I had no business being the expert. I had my phone,

I was hunched over the steering wheel at 10:07 a.m., rain ticking on the windshield like a metronome, staring at the garage door of a tiny shop on Main Street. My friend Maya was in the passenger seat, headphones off for once, scrolling through a text thread where everyone had suddenly become a car whisperer. We had driven from Kitsilano through a traffic jam on Broadway GleamWorks that added 22 minutes to our trip. The shop’s sign said “Detail + Protect” in faded navy

I was kneeling by the passenger door under a drizzle in Kitsilano, wiping mud off the rocker panel with a paper towel at 7:18 p.m., watching my reflection get smeared, then reappear, then smeared again. The shop's fluorescent lights made my car look like a bad Instagram filter from the street. I had spent the afternoon bouncing between three shops, and I still hadn't decided whether to do ceramic coating vancouver, ppf bancouver, or both. The city breathes on your car here,

I was squinting through drizzle at 10:17 a.m., leaning on the hood of a three-year-old Civic while some kid in a damp hoodie peeled back a corner of film and cursed softly. Rain on the windshield, Burrard Street traffic humming, and my friend Mark on the phone trying to explain why he had insisted I handle the whole thing. It felt ridiculous and very Vancouver. I had come to watch, judge, and if necessary, veto. The weirdest part of the meeting The shop smelled like hot

I was crouched under a soggy canopy outside a shop on Cambie at 11:12 a.m., rain running down my hood, staring at my friend’s phone while he scrolled through review after review. The car sat two blocks away, a little dent in the rear bumper that he kept apologizing for, and he kept muttering, "I just want it to look decent for summer." No grand plan, no checklist. Just a Sunday in Vancouver, greasy coffee in hand, a mild sense of panic about making the right call. Traffi
